SQMAS (Supplier Quality Management Audit Scheme) is a Quality Management System Standard aimed specifically for SMEs and micro sized businesses.

This was developed as a direct result of a demand in the market place for a Quality Management System (QMS) relevant to SMEs which is simpler to implement and maintain offering a more cost effective solution to ISO 9001.

In October 2014 SQMAS was officially launched under SQMAS Limited to offer a more suitable, affordable alternative.

Why SQMAS?


Until SQMAS was developed the principle way for companies to demonstrate that they have a Quality Management System (QMS) was to implement ISO 9001 which in many cases is not suitable, particularly for the smaller businesses and this has made it tougher to compete especially when tendering or procuring for work.

The requirements of SQMAS are broadly similar to ISO 9001, only they have been adapted and simplified to reflect the needs of smaller businesses making it a fraction of the cost to implement and maintain.

The Standard is still robust providing assurance to customers, interested parties and indeed the businesses themselves that their needs are being monitored, addressed and business risks reduced.

SQMAS is a much more suitable Quality Management System Standard for small to micro sized businesses with implementation starting at just £295 to sign up to the scheme.

How it works


The process to implement SQMAS is simple – register by completing the SQMAS Sign up form as to what level of support you require and SQMAS will arrange an invoice.

Once this has cleared you will be provided with a copy of the SQMAS Standard, relevant templates and support documentation. Onsite support will be provided as required.

Implementation costs start from £295 to sign up to the scheme.

SQMAS has been designed to enhance Quality Performance through the supply chain and can be used to build good supplier relations. The unique monitoring and corrective action checklist can be adapted to ensure that key customer requirements are being addressed and that high quality standards are being maintained.

SQMAS is being used as a tool to assist large organisations to manage quality though the supply chain thus enhancing customer/supplier communications.

SQMAS keeps it simple but effective.
